MALLING
Filipinos definitely love malling, not so much to make purchases as to enjoy the airconditioned atmosphere.

SIDEWALK TRADING
Fresh vegetables on display in sidewalks for passersby to buy.

CHURCH ON SUNDAY
The Philippines is 80 percent Christian. A huge chunk of the population is Catholic. This church celebrates 10 masses every Sunday.

YOUNG PINOYS IN PRAYER
It is common for young Filipinos to attend mass with their friends. Going to church is as much a religious activity as a socialization with peers.

TRICYCLES
Not only are they ubiquitous, but they are also cheaper than taxi and faster than walking.

BUDBUD (Suman) VENDOR
How to make budbud. Ingredients: 2 pc coconut (grated), 6 c brown sugar, and 6 c glutinous rice. Procedure: (1) Extract milk from grated coconut with 6 cups water. (2) Heat in a carajay and add sugar. (3) Stir constantly to form a thin syrup. (4) Add presoaked glutinous rice and mix well. Cool the mixture. (5) Transfer two tablespoons of mixture into wilted banana leaf, roll, wrap, and fold both ends. (6.) Tie wrapped rolls in pairs. (7) Arrange in a steamer and cook until done (about one hour).

JEEPNEY
A jeepney in downtown Manila. These "hybrid" passenger vehicles are bigger and more colorful copies of American army jeeps used in the second world war. Almost every province in the Philippines has its own unique design. It can accommodate somewhere between 20 and 40 commuters.

SARI-SARI STORE
This is a typical sari-sari store in the Philippines. It sells a little bit of everything - from bananas to paracetamols. The good thing about sari-sari stores is that you can purchase items in very small amounts. You can buy here a piece of onion, a ganta of rice, a can of sardines, tablespoons of patis, or even a single sheet of paper.
