The series of free medical and dental check up being conducted by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers’ Welfare Office (OWWA) here in Milan continues as the government strengthened its outreach program. The initiative which is being done every other Sunday in the different Filipino communities here is being made possible thru the help of Express Padala S.p.A. or the Equittable-PCIBank Milan Branch headed by Caesar Carnecer and the volunteered Filipino nurses mostly from Ospedale San Rafaelle.Labor Attache’ Atty. Araceli Maraya said that the project was formally launched during the Migrants Workers Day last June 15, 2006 at the PCG office as part of its commitment to serve the Pinoy migrants in Milan and other parts of Northern Italy. Maraya adds that the free check up particularly aims to help OFWs especially those who are still undocumented and can not avail yet the Italian free medical services extended to “carta sanitaria” holders. The medical team is headed by Malu de la Fuente, Head Nurse of Ospedale San Rafaelle with some friendly Italian doctors like Dr. Gianluca Piccinini and Dr. Luca Vigano and Dentist Tess Arceo, leads the dental team. As of this writing, the team has already visited five different communities to conduct their medical/dental mission; the first was made last July 2 at the Filipino Community of San Lorenzo in Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore in Corso Porta Ticenese, 35. The second mission was made last July 16, at Pallalido Sports Complex among the members and supporters of Jesus Is Lord (JIL). The active medical team which is also composed of volunteered nurses like Tess Buenabente, Annabelle Daquiz, Pacencia Paulino, Glenda Zarate, Elsie Rebosa, Sonny Realuyo and Noel Dolz took their annual summer holidays last mid of July until the end of August. On September 3 however, the team resumed their free medical/dental mission. The new season of the outreach program then started with Samar-Leyte Workers Association of Milan on September 3 at Via Lattanzio, 58 and on Septemtember 17, the team extended their services to the members and supporters of Chiesa Christiana Evangelica Internazionale in Via Tertulliano.De la Fuente expressed satisfaction on the program as she quips “masaya kasi marami kaming natutulungan at marami ring tumutulong sa amin to be able to keep the program going”. Meanwhile Carnecer said that this is not the first time they had funded a free medical and dental check up for the migrant workers. He said, they had started the program years ago even before the merging of PCI and Equittable Bank but they were inactive for a couple of years because of in availability of volunteered nurses and dentists. However this is the second year that they had done the project since the merging. Carnecer also added that they are giving honorarium for the Italian doctors but the nurses are purely volunteers. Asked what were the common illness or complaints they usually received from the people availing the free check up, Dr. Piccinini said that majority of them complains hypertension and so he recommends a low-salt or non-salt diet at all to the patients. Aside from hypertension, Piccinini said that several also complains diabetes, headaches or cervical pains.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY PARIS - “ALAMIN ANG INYONG MGA KARAPATAN”
Sept. 20 - Isang pagtitipon ang ginanap noong nakaraang linggo, ika-17 ng Setyembre sa tanggapan ng Embahada ng Pilipinas. Ang okasyon ay isinagawa sa pakikipagtulungan ng Philipppine Embassy at Ms Zita Obra, Presidente ng Asosasyon ng Sangguniang Pilipino (ASF), na siyang namuno bilang tagapagsalita sa hapong iyon.
Dumalo ang ibat-ibang Pangulo ng Filipino Association at mga miyembro ng ilang Filipino Community Associations sa Paris.
Ang tema ng usapan ay patungkol sa imigrasyon at iba pang katanungang tulad ng pagdedeklara ng kinita, pagpapatira sa walang papel, pagtanggap ng Prime de l’emploi at iba pang bagay na may kinalaman sa pagtira ng mga migranteng Pilipino sa bansa ng France.
Inanyayahan ni Ms. Zita Obra si Maitre Nader Larbi ‘Aicha’ upang sagutin ang ibat-ibang concern ng mga Pilipinong dumalo. Karamihan sa mga ito ay ayon sa bagong naisakatuparan na batas ukol sa imigrasyon.
Ang mga sumusunod ang mga katanungang tinalakay sa pagtitipon:
1. Puwede ba pang i-apply ang ten yrs residency?
Puwede pa rin, kailangan ang mga pruweba tulad ng EDF, Facture o mga sulat na magpapatunay na ikaw ay naririto sa panahong iyon. Pero ito ay depende pa rin sa Prefecture.
Huwag isama ang bangko, at income tax declaration, mga dokumentong ukol sa pagkita ng pera. Kinakailangang makipag-alaman sa isang abogadong may specialization sa imigrasyon o recours sa imigrasyon.
2. Paano ang gagawin, kung makatanggap ng kautusang lumabas ng bansa?
Maitre Nader : Sa mga may hawak na 10 yrs proof of residency, sa tulong ng isang abogado, maghintay ng isang buwan bago ito iapela sa tribunal (korte), dapat na malamang ang isang taong may kasong nag appeal ay hindi magagalaw upang mapauwi.
3. Papaano kung 2 beses ng nakatanggap ng ‘reconduite a la frontiere’? (pagpapaalis). M. N: Lahat ng kaso ay nililitis at subject to judgement, hindi nila basta basta mapapaalis ang isang tao, habang hindi pa bumababa ang desisyon.
4. Ano ang risk ng isang taong nagpapatira o nagpapa-upa sa isang walang papel? Zita Obra: Ang isang taong walang papel ay itinuturing na ‘non existent’, at considered na isang ‘squatter’ na isang paglabag sa batas ng mga umuupa. Malaki ang risk sa part ng nagpapaupa dahil nilalabag niya ang kautusang iyon.
M.N.: Bukod sa sinabi ni Mlle. Obra, ang mga taong mapatunayang kumukupkop o tumutulong sa mga walang papel ay lumalabag sa kautusan sa isang batas imigrasyon na lumabas noong nakaraang taon at considered na isang ‘complice’.
5. Puwede pa bang umapela ang mga may anak gayong tapos na ang takdang panahon sa pagsubmit ng ‘dossier’?
M.N: Para sa mga may anak, huwag ng ipilit ang kanilang dossier dahil isa lamang itong ‘piege’ o patibong upang kayo ay matunton. Paraan upang kayo ay matunton sa eskuwelahan kasama ng inyong anak.
Mga karagdagang impormasyon:

Tiyaga at Sipag ng isang Pinoy sa France
Tulad ng maraming pinoy isa ako na nagmula sa kahirapan. Dahil sa pagsisikap at tiyaga masasabi ko sa aking sarili na ako’y isa sa mga nagtagumpay! Sa ngayon, pilit pa ring nakikipagsapalaran bilang isang manggawa sa France.
Taong 2000 ng lisanin ko ang sariling bayan. Ako’y napadpad sa France sa tulong ng aking kamag-anak. Tulad ng karamihan, dahil sa kakulangan ng kaalaman sa lingguwaheng Pranses, ako ay namasakukan sa isang mayamang pamilya ng arabo dito sa South of France. Mabait ang aking employer, matapos ang tatlong taong paninilbihan, biniyayaan niya ako ng mas malaking puwesto bilang Mayordoma ng kanyang mga anak at kumuha siya ng panibagong pinay para magtrabaho sa bahay.
Sa loob ng tatlong taon pagtitiis na mawalay sa aking pamilya, puro pagtatrabaho ang aking inatupag at ang salaping aking nasinop ay ipinapadala ko ng halos buo upang makabili ng sariling lupa at bahay sa Marikina. Sa ngayon isang talyer ang pinipilit na ipundar ng aking mister. Malungkot man, lubos ang aking kagalakan dahil naiisip ko na may patutungahan ang aking pagpapasakit. Mabuti rin sa amin ang Panginoon at tunay na tao ang pagtingin sa akin ng aking amo, sa aking spare time, ako ay hinahayaan niyang maka-pag-aral ng wikang Pranses. Ginagantihan ko naman ito ng ayos at tamang pagtatrabaho.
Sa ilang pagbabiyahe labas ng France, natutunan ko kung papaanong makisalumuha sa ibang Nationalities, pangit man o maganda, natutunan kong makisama. Maraming pagsubok akong dinaanan at sa gabay ng Panginoon ito ay aking nalampasan. Sa kabila ng lahat ng ito, hindi ko pa rin ipagpapalit ang bansang Pilipinas, dahil sa dugong nananalaytay sa akin, ako ay babalik sa lupang sinilangan!
Sana ay nakapagbigay saya ang aking istorya sa mga kabayang Pinoy , ano man ang iyong narating bilang isang Pilipinong nasa ibang bansa, ang sipag at tiyaga kasama ng malinis na hangarin ang tanging solusyon sa maayos na hinaharap. Huwag rin nating kalimutan ang ating bansa saan man tayo nakarating, sino pa ba ang dadamay sa sariling bayan kundi tayo rin !

Former Philippine Honorary Consul Explain Resignation!
The Former Philippine Honorary Consul Madam Vanthoula, a constatine leader, appeared before the filipino communities to explained her resignation. It took place last Sunday, Sept 10. 2006, at the Holy Cross Parish Church Nicosia, Cyprus during the filipino mass. It was attended by Minister, Counselor, and Genreal Consul Eleanor L. Jaucian, Social Welfare Jocelyn Hafal from Phil. Embassy of the Athens, Greece with over hundreds of church goers.
The filipino mass has ended emotionally as the the Former Philipine Honorary Madam Consul Vanthoula delivered her farewell speech. She said "I have no intention to resign but I was forced. There is a recruitment disagreement. I am happy to help and support the Filipinos in Cyprus. I wrote a letter and address the problem to the President of the Philippines, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Ministry of the European Labor and to the Ministry of European Foreign Affairs but I was not heard. I made an appeal to all concerned but no appropriate action done to all. The Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Philippines Overaseas Labor Office (POLO) in Athens Greece remained silent, closed and uncooperative with their recruitment policy that forced me to resigned".
Madam Vanthoula stated a clear example. She said "I wanted to employ the sister of my present helper as she is no longer allowed by the immigration to stay in Cyprus. I was not allowed by the Philippine Government to employ her sister in NAME HIRE instead in AGENCY HIRE. Agencies gives a higher cost/rate on employment placement fee on their applicants and the employers as well, causing a lot of pressures and problems later on. Once an applicant is disemployed most agencies doesn't care for their welfare. In any problems or troubles the applicant reported on my office to complaint and ask for help and advise. Agencies are not aware, they only made a business at the expense of the poor applicants and employers as well."
Madam Vanthoula expressed her warmth thankfulness to the filipino community for their friendship and support during on her 2 years of service as Philipine Honorary Consulate (PHC). She appealed to the Filipino people that we should stand united to support one another and to demand the Philippine Government to pay due respect, do appropriate and necessary actions needed by the Overseas Filipino Workers called as the modern day and unsung heroes of the Philippines. During her speech, she encouragely said to all the Filipinos "Be Proud of Yourself and Fight For Justice".
The Minister Counselor and General Consul Ms. Eleanor L. Jaucian said that the PHC has no intention to resign "Napilitan lang". She added that Madam Vanthoula is a person with a good heart to give help and support to the Filipinos without being paid by the Philippine Government. She expressed her sincerest thanks and gratitude to her.
The Social Welfare Officer Jocelyn Hafal emphasized that they are more than a to help to find a solutions to the problems of the filipinos in Cyprus as it now as a fast growing destinations of the Filipinos for migrant workers. She encouraged everyone to support and informed the Manila Office regarding the said issue . Sha said "Magkaisa tayong Lahat".
The Cyprus Filipino Communities rendered their general expresses for their deepest and sincerest appreciation, gratitude and thankfulness to Madam Vanthoula and to her family and to all concerned Philippine Embassy Personnels from Athens, Greece from coming to show their concerns and support for the Filipino in Cyprus. Cry of the World: Lights of the World Church of God in Cyprus
The Cry of the World is the theme of the Light of the World Church of God in Cyprus, the 2nd Quarter inter-fellowship and water-baptism held in Larnaca Cyprus. The outreach ministries of Larnaca, Limassol, Paralimni, Paphos, Ayia Napa, and Nicosia attended the event. The Charismatic Renewal Family headed by Sis Cora Artemion were the invited guests.
Rev. Pastor Marcelo Cayanan was the keynote speaker that day. He proclaimed the gospel in Romans 10:12-21. According to him, the cry of the world refers to the current events and activities affects us. For example, are the news we heard and saw from television that are happening around the world like terrorism, violence lending to a war and causes millions of deaths, devastations, poverty, crimes and other related problems. In our daily life the cry of the world means ownself misunderstandings, confusions and problems in dealing in our everyday life, work and activities.
Did we hear the cry of the world? How do we respond? Marcelo encourages us that as a Christians we have the responsibilities to respond to the cry of the world. We need to listen and tune in positively to the lonely desperate cry of our heart and hopelessness. We must reach out other people with a compassionate heart like Jesus to encourage them to live accordingly to the will of the Lord.
Basically a renewal in our life is needed. We must be baptized by the spirit of God. We must be born again Christian to turn our living to God who blessed us abundantly. Once we are born again Christian we have the word of God on us. The Holy Spirit will poured upon on us direct and guide us. We can always hear, tune in and respond positively to the cry of the world because we became imitators and good followers of God. Let us all respond to the calling of God.
The event was also highlighted with the praise and worship for God's greatest glory. The Paralimni Outreach Ministry rendered a special dance number to the tune of "Natutulog Ba ang Diyos?". Sis. Aurelia's testimony and Sis Lea's titles and offerings messages both from Paphos were highly inspirational. The healing prayer can healed the cry of the world through faith.
The candidates for the water baptism were baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit for the repentance of thus making them modern day disciples of all nations by being a Blessed Migrant Worker.

The filipino mass has ended emotionally as the the Former Philipine Honorary Madam Consul Vanthoula delivered her farewell speech. She said "I have no intention to resign but I was forced. There is a recruitment disagreement. I am happy to help and support the Filipinos in Cyprus. I wrote a letter and address the problem to the President of the Philippines, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Ministry of the European Labor and to the Ministry of European Foreign Affairs but I was not heard. I made an appeal to all concerned but no appropriate action done to all. The Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Philippines Overaseas Labor Office (POLO) in Athens Greece remained silent, closed and uncooperative with their recruitment policy that forced me to resigned".
Madam Vanthoula stated a clear example. She said "I wanted to employ the sister of my present helper as she is no longer allowed by the immigration to stay in Cyprus. I was not allowed by the Philippine Government to employ her sister in NAME HIRE instead in AGENCY HIRE. Agencies gives a higher cost/rate on employment placement fee on their applicants and the employers as well, causing a lot of pressures and problems later on. Once an applicant is disemployed most agencies doesn't care for their welfare. In any problems or troubles the applicant reported on my office to complaint and ask for help and advise. Agencies are not aware, they only made a business at the expense of the poor applicants and employers as well."
Madam Vanthoula expressed her warmth thankfulness to the filipino community for their friendship and support during on her 2 years of service as Philipine Honorary Consulate (PHC). She appealed to the Filipino people that we should stand united to support one another and to demand the Philippine Government to pay due respect, do appropriate and necessary actions needed by the Overseas Filipino Workers called as the modern day and unsung heroes of the Philippines. During her speech, she encouragely said to all the Filipinos "Be Proud of Yourself and Fight For Justice".
The Minister Counselor and General Consul Ms. Eleanor L. Jaucian said that the PHC has no intention to resign "Napilitan lang". She added that Madam Vanthoula is a person with a good heart to give help and support to the Filipinos without being paid by the Philippine Government. She expressed her sincerest thanks and gratitude to her.
The Social Welfare Officer Jocelyn Hafal emphasized that they are more than a to help to find a solutions to the problems of the filipinos in Cyprus as it now as a fast growing destinations of the Filipinos for migrant workers. She encouraged everyone to support and informed the Manila Office regarding the said issue . Sha said "Magkaisa tayong Lahat".
The Cyprus Filipino Communities rendered their general expresses for their deepest and sincerest appreciation, gratitude and thankfulness to Madam Vanthoula and to her family and to all concerned Philippine Embassy Personnels from Athens, Greece from coming to show their concerns and support for the Filipino in Cyprus. Cry of the World: Lights of the World Church of God in Cyprus
The Cry of the World is the theme of the Light of the World Church of God in Cyprus, the 2nd Quarter inter-fellowship and water-baptism held in Larnaca Cyprus. The outreach ministries of Larnaca, Limassol, Paralimni, Paphos, Ayia Napa, and Nicosia attended the event. The Charismatic Renewal Family headed by Sis Cora Artemion were the invited guests.
Rev. Pastor Marcelo Cayanan was the keynote speaker that day. He proclaimed the gospel in Romans 10:12-21. According to him, the cry of the world refers to the current events and activities affects us. For example, are the news we heard and saw from television that are happening around the world like terrorism, violence lending to a war and causes millions of deaths, devastations, poverty, crimes and other related problems. In our daily life the cry of the world means ownself misunderstandings, confusions and problems in dealing in our everyday life, work and activities.
Did we hear the cry of the world? How do we respond? Marcelo encourages us that as a Christians we have the responsibilities to respond to the cry of the world. We need to listen and tune in positively to the lonely desperate cry of our heart and hopelessness. We must reach out other people with a compassionate heart like Jesus to encourage them to live accordingly to the will of the Lord.
Basically a renewal in our life is needed. We must be baptized by the spirit of God. We must be born again Christian to turn our living to God who blessed us abundantly. Once we are born again Christian we have the word of God on us. The Holy Spirit will poured upon on us direct and guide us. We can always hear, tune in and respond positively to the cry of the world because we became imitators and good followers of God. Let us all respond to the calling of God.
The event was also highlighted with the praise and worship for God's greatest glory. The Paralimni Outreach Ministry rendered a special dance number to the tune of "Natutulog Ba ang Diyos?". Sis. Aurelia's testimony and Sis Lea's titles and offerings messages both from Paphos were highly inspirational. The healing prayer can healed the cry of the world through faith.
The candidates for the water baptism were baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit for the repentance of thus making them modern day disciples of all nations by being a Blessed Migrant Worker.

Kalayaan - Independence Day!!!!????

All Philippine Embassies in different parts of the world and a lot of filipino people are busy for the preparation of the incoming event of the Philippine Independence Day. This is a commemoration and celebration of establishment of soverign of rights, freedom and liberty. It will celebrate the 108 years of social freedom of its origin done and gained by different filipino heroes in the historical event in the Philippines. This event became traditional, cultural and historical for all the Filipinos. That's why we, Filipinos, never forgets to join and celebrates this annual event because we value this event, we treasure the historical record, we believe that we obtained this freedom of ours and we gained the tremendous insights of being free of who we are.
If I were to ask you, what is freedom or Independence Day? I'm sure all of you have different meanings about it. All of you have a lot of definitions and symbols about it.
Freedom has a widest, deepest and biggest responsibilities and meaning to us. It's not about being free for everything but it is about responsibilities, duties, convictions and opportunities to stand of who we are or what we are. Freedom for me, is the best sword and armour of living. It is the easiest and hardest thing in the world. Why? It is simply because freedom is a decision between us. Freedom comes from us to do and not to do. Yes! Freedom is a law, it is our human rights, and it is in our hands.
It should not only the historical records that evoked with us but it should be the RIGHT things that corresponds to our RIGHTS and responsibilities as a person, a politician, a leader, a worker, a citizen, a government official, or as who you are reading this newspaper.
Do you think you are free? Do you think your using your freedom? Do you feel the essence of Independence Day? Or you just want to participate in this event without practicing to yourself the true meaning of it. Freedom is not abusing the powers, it is not corruption, it is not hurting the others, it's not Pride. If you have selfishness in your heart it's not freedom. It is a sin! Look and observe all those people who are in hunger, in crisis, in poverty. Are they using their freedom to live in order to live, to eat the foods that they must have, crisis in economy because of abusing powers and leadership, poverty because of pride, selfishness and money as a root of evil. Freedom is not only for ourselves it should be for all.
Let's go back into the history so that we could really appreciate the meaning of freedom for us. Who will forget the young hero of Tirad Pass Gregorio del Pilar who helped Aguinaldo. Who will forget Andres Bonificio who fought and organized the KKK? What about Jose Rizal who became the National Heroes because of his intelligent, courage and love for country? It is just a bit of different heroes we have because we have a lot of different heroes who died to save the Philippines. All heroes do their heroism by themselves but they've done thier best through also the help of the others. They fought not only for themselves but for all filipinos living in our country, for the Philippines, itself. No man is an island that's the word! That's why because of unity, love, goals, dreams, determination, decision and courage we gained this freedom. It was gained by one person but a lot of persons that's why freedom or independence should be and must be a responsibilities to gained the said characters.

Araw Ng Paggawa, Araw Ng Paglikha

Sandaang taon na ang nakararaan ng ideklara at ipagdiwang ang natatanging araw para sa uring manggagawa na siyang lumilikha ng yaman ng bawa’t bansa,sandaang taon ng pagpapanday at pagpa-patatag ng ating kaisipan sa pamamagitan ng mga tunggalian at ng mahabang karanasan.
Muli ay ating gugunitain ang makabuluhang araw ng paggawa,araw na kung saan ay nabibigyan halaga ang mga ambag at kabuluhan ng pagiging manggagawa para sa paghubog at pag-unlad ng bawa’t lipunan sa mundo.Sa ngayon ay maraming mga bansa na ang malayo na ang narating sa larangan ng teknolohiya,industriya,telekomunikasyon, transportasyon at marami pang iba.Sa ngayon ay marami naring mga indibidwal at asosasyon ang tumanyag,yumaman at naging maimpluwensya sa politika,kultura,ekonomiya at maging sa larangang militar nang dahil sa pawis at dugo ng uring manggagawa.
Sa pilipinas na kung saan ang labing limang (15%) porsyento ng ating papulasyon ay binubuo ng uring manggagawa kasama ng pitumput limang (75%) porsyento ng uring magsasaka ay tahasan din at patuloy na nakararanas ng di pantay at di maka-taong pagtrato sa kamay ng mga kapitalista at mga panginoong may lupa.Tulad sa ibang bansa ang mga manggagawa sa Pilipinas ay biktima ng iba’t-ibang pagsasamantala tulad ng mababang pasahod,kakulangan ng mga benipisyo,walang kasiguraduhan sa trabaho dahil sa sistemang “apprenticeship”,at kawalan ng karapatan sa pag-uunyon bukod pa rito ang mga di makataong batas tulad ng AJ (Assumption of Jurisdiction).
Bukod sa mga samu’t saring problema na kinakaharap ng uring manggagawa sa kamay ng mga kapitalista ,ang mga manggagawa ay nahaharap din sa mas masalimuot na problema na dulot naman ng kawalang proteksyon at kalinga sa gubyerno mismo.Dahil paglabas ng mga manggagawa sa mga pagawaan ay nahaharap siya sa mas malalang problema ng lipunan na dulot ng mga buktot na opisyal ng ating gubyerno.Nariyan ang mga matataas na bilihin,sangkaterbang buwis tulad ng E-VAT na dapat bayaran na walang namang katumbas na tulong sosyal,laganap na kurakutan sa kaban ng bayan,pagsupil sa mga lehitimong karapatang pantao tulad ng malayang pagtitipon at pamamahayag at higit sa lahat ay ang pagkitil mismo sa buhay ng mga tumututol sa gubyerno,sa ngayon ay tinatayang nasa 558 na ang napapatay sa ilalim ng rehimeng Arroyo.
Kaya’t sa pagdiriwang natin sa Araw ng paggawa ay ipakita natin na tayo ang gumagawa at nagluluwal ng yaman ng ating bansa,na tayo ang humuhubog at nagpapanday ng isang masaganang lipunan.Pinanday tayo ng mga tunggalian at pinatatag tayo ng mahabang karanasan,kaya’t gamitin natin ito upang sa darating na bukas ay makamit natin ang isang sagana,demokratiko at malayang lipunan na kung saan sa pagdiriwang natin ng Araw ng Paggawa ay masasabi nating tunay na araw ng Paglikha.

My Personal Reaction to GMA's Declaration of State of National Emergency

The first thing that came to my mind was Qoheleth's famous verse: "there's nothing new under the sun" (qoh 1:9). surprisingly GMA herself quoted almost the entire chapter from the same biblical book (qoh 3) during her speech at the "libingan ng mga bayani", where she went to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the EDSA 1986 revolution. And now the same divinely inspired author flashed back to my mind when I heard her declare a state of national emergency last friday (the 24th of february).Read More
Looking back at the history of the Philippines these past twenty years or so (I was born exactly on the same year Ferdinand Marcos became our president and have seen all the socio-political and religious events in our country since then), nothing is really new under the sun. States of emergency? Suspensions of the writ of habeas corpus?, Coup d'état attempts? Martial laws declarations? - we have had all these since the 1940's (although people of my generation would probably remember only the september 21, 1972 declaration of martial law by pres. ferdinand marcos; the december 6, 1989 declaration of national state of emergency by Pres. Corazon Aquino, and another one on december 20 of the same year).
Perhaps the only novelty consists in the fact that, after the 1986 EDSA revolution, the filipino people seem to have taken penchant for staging glaring protest movements and rebellions. Pres. Cory Aquino had her share of six coup d'état attempts!; GMA herself became president as the outcome of the so-called EDSA 2 (in january 2001); and since then our country has seen quite a number of socio-political disturbances (like the may 2001 uprising by the supporters of pres. joseph estrada, the july 2003 thwarted mutiny at the makati business district by the "Magdalo" faction, and so forth).
Should the supposedly coup d'état attempt last 24th of February and GMA's response to it surprise us then? Only people with short memory and with no familiarity with the local situation would be surprised at all. GMA has every right - both as president and as commander-in-chief - to do whatever she thinks is best to stabilize the local situation, see to it that social justice prevails, peace and order restored, and so forth. Some may not agree with the constitutional provisions or articles and sections she bases her decision on (art. XVII, sec. 17 and art. XVII, sec. 17?, or art. VII, sec. 18 and art. XII, sec. 17 of the 1987 constitutions?), or with the urgency of declaring a state of national emergency.

The first thing that came to my mind was Qoheleth's famous verse: "there's nothing new under the sun" (qoh 1:9). surprisingly GMA herself quoted almost the entire chapter from the same biblical book (qoh 3) during her speech at the "libingan ng mga bayani", where she went to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the EDSA 1986 revolution. Looking back at the history of the Philippines these past twenty years or so (I was born exactly on the same year Ferdinand Marcos became our president and have seen all the socio-political and religious events in our country since then), nothing is really new under the sun. States of emergency? Suspensions of the writ of habeas corpus?, Coup d'état attempts? Martial laws declarations? - we have had all these since the 1940's (although people of my generation would probably remember only the september 21, 1972 declaration of martial law by pres. ferdinand marcos; the december 6, 1989 declaration of national state of emergency by Pres. Corazon Aquino, and another one on december 20 of the same year).
Perhaps the only novelty consists in the fact that, after the 1986 EDSA revolution, the filipino people seem to have taken penchant for staging glaring protest movements and rebellions. Pres. Cory Aquino had her share of six coup d'état attempts!; GMA herself became president as the outcome of the so-called EDSA 2 (in january 2001); and since then our country has seen quite a number of socio-political disturbances (like the may 2001 uprising by the supporters of pres. joseph estrada, the july 2003 thwarted mutiny at the makati business district by the "Magdalo" faction, and so forth).
Should the supposedly coup d'état attempt last 24th of February and GMA's response to it surprise us then? Only people with short memory and with no familiarity with the local situation would be surprised at all. GMA has every right - both as president and as commander-in-chief - to do whatever she thinks is best to stabilize the local situation, see to it that social justice prevails, peace and order restored, and so forth. Some may not agree with the constitutional provisions or articles and sections she bases her decision on (art. XVII, sec. 17 and art. XVII, sec. 17?, or art. VII, sec. 18 and art. XII, sec. 17 of the 1987 constitutions?), or with the urgency of declaring a state of national emergency.

Dagok sa bansang Pilipinas nagtuloy-tuloy. Maraming trahedya ang naganap. Maraming buhay ang nawala. Maraming luha ang tumagas. Marami ang nasaktan at patuloy na nasasaktan. Lubog na nga bang talaga ang Pilipinas? Wala na nga bang pag asa na maiahon ito sa kahirapan na ngayon ay umaalingasaw sa bawat bibig ng maraming Pilipino? Totoo bang nasa putik na tayo ng kagipitan? Mga Mahihirap na tao patuloy na naghihirap. Gobyerno hindi na malaman kung ano ang gagawin. Mataas na bilihin hindi na naibaba.
Ekonomiya ng bansa umiiyak na at sumisigaw. Ang inang Bayan gusto ng mag alma pero walang magawa. Mga Bayani sa libingan na nagbuwis ng buhay binubuhay ang kanilang mga ipinaglalaban sa karapatan na makamtam ang “Kalayaan ng Bansa”. Usap usapan hindi na natatapos. Marami ang natatakot dahil Pilipinas nagkakagulo ang mga tao. Hindi na malaman kung sinu nga ba ang dapat sisihin sa mga pangyayari na sunod sunod na bagyong humahagupit dito.
Parang latigo na unti unting uubusin ang mga tao dahil ba sa Kahirapan ng mundo? Dahil ba sa Korupsyon? Dahil ba sa maduming pulitika? Dahil ba sa pang aabuso ng mga matataas na tao? Dahil ba sa maling panunungkulan? Dahil ba sa katiwalian at pandaraya? Dahil sa pagnanakaw at pagiging makasarili? Dahil ba sa maling opinyon at paggawa ng masama kahit kapwa tao ang mamamatay sa gutom? Ilan lamang iyan marahil sa possibleng dahilan para malaman ang dahilan Pero bakit nga? Pinapalo na nga ba ang Pilipinas sa mga maling pamamalakad at pag iimbot na bumabalot sa mga taong naninirahan dito? Sino ang dapat sisihin?
Ilan pang mga Pilipino ang mamamatay? Ilan pang mga Bata ang makakakita ng kahindik hindik na mga pangyayari sa bansa na wala namang kamalay kamalay? Ilang beses pa na tayo ay luluha at maghahanap ng katarungan? Ilan beses pa na tayo ay makukulong sa pag aalsa at paghihimagsik? Kailan matatapos ang rebolusyon? Kailan mawawakasan ang korupsyon, kasamaan, katiwalaan? Kailan magigising ang dapat magising? Kailan ba tayo magtutulungan at hindi magiging alipin ng kasakiman, ganid at galit na pagtataksil sa bansa? Bakit tayo ganito? Ikaw? Anu ba ang masasabi?
Bakit ayaw nating magtulungan? Lahat tayo ay may buhay at nais mabuhay sa maayos na paraan. Bakit ang yaman yaman mo na ayaw mo pang magbahagi at imbis ay ninanakawan mo pa ang kaban ng pamahalaan na sana at dapat maitutulong sa mga nangangailangan at naghihikahos. Bakit kayo ganyan? Binigyan kayo ng posisyon pero hindi ninyo ginagamit sa mabuting paraan. Itinayo namin kayo dahil kami ay nagtiwala at ibinuhos ang buong pagsuporta sa inyo upang maiahon ninyo ang bansang Pilipinas. Hindi lang ito para kay Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo kundi sa lahat ng nanunungkulan sa mundo.
Kahit pa sino ang iluklok natin sa bansa, kung ang kanyang layunin ay magpayaman, magkamkam ng salapi ay walang mangyayaring pagbabago, walang mangyayari na pag unlad at pagtayo ng bansa. Wag sana tayong maging makasarili. Ang naapakan ay ang mga taong walang malay, mga taong halos gutom ang inaabot sa araw araw, mga taong magpapakamatay makakain lamang sa isang araw. Nasaan ang katarungan? Nasaan ang inyong pinag aralan? Nasaan ang tinatawag na Pagkatakot sa Diyos kung tayo ay isa sa nagdudulot ng hirap sa mundo.
Tumayo tayo at ibangon ang Pilipinas. Magkaisa. My Opinion on the Proclamation of the State of National Emergency

My opinion, as a Chaplain/Parish Priest of the Mission for the Filipino Migrants in the Diocese of Rome, regarding the proclamation of the 1017- State of National Emergency, I think it is not the ultimate solution yet in order to pacify the situation in our country. It is a fundamental human right of every person- Filipino citizen to seek for justice, democracy and freedom of expression. The 1017 certainly suppresses this basic human rights. How could justice and freedom and democracy then be expressed? Would it not provoke more chaos in our beloved country?
I think the necessity of proclaiming the 1017 has to be reevaluated or
examined again, because it created a nationwide controversy.

Comment on the State of Emergency

I do not agree to the State of Emergency because we can't easily judge anyone without having proofs that they have committed a sin or done reckless thing against the law. How about those ugly people or faces? How can we be sure that they are bad ones? What right do we have to judge nor arrest someone we don’t know. I think that is very unreasonable and discriminative. Let’s try to look those elegant people, clean people, those who live in a better place or has the power to control over other peoples’ life. How can we tell that they are innocent? In this world, people are born to comment and to judge but in the depth of God’s love, we are equal. He doesn’t judge nor arrest, he give chances and forgiveness.

Opinion sa State of Emergency
Sunod sunod na dagok ang kinakaharap ng bansang Pilipinas patunay na lamang na talagang ang Pilipinas ay lubog na sa kahirapan at ganun din sa pagbagsak ng ekonomiya. Sa mga trahedyang naganap, hirap ng buhay, at ngayon nga ay itong State of Emergency ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Mahirap magsalita ng tapos pero ang ganitobng klase ng pangyayari ay naulit lamang ng naulit pero walang naging pagbabago sa Pilipinas pamula kay marcos at ngayon ay dito kay Gloria. Walang magrereklamo kung walang nanloloko. Walang mang aabuso kung walanmg nagpapaabuso.
Walang ganitong paghihimagsik at pag aalsa ng mga tao kung walang korupsyon na nagaganap, pandaraya, panlalamangan dahil ang nangyayari ngayon ay walang pagbabago. Ang mga mahihirap ay patuloy na naghihirap at ang mayayaman ay walang pakialam sa mundo at sa mga taong naaapakan. Sila ang yumayaman ng yumaman. Kaya nag aalsa at naghihimagsik ay dahil ipinaglalaban ang karapatan at patunay lamang itong pagkakagulo na ito ay dahilan sa walang pagbabago lalong naghihirap at bumabagsak.Hindi ako sang ayon sa batas na ito.
Dapat maaksiyunan an g gumuguhong bansa natin sa kahirapan. Tapusin ang korupsiyon at panlilinlang sa kapwa. Ang mga nakaupo sa batas ang dapat mag state of emergency dahil ang batas na sinasabi ninyo ang hahatol sa mga pangungurakot na ginagawa ninyo.Kayo ang mga nanunungkulan, Hindi lamang si Pang. Macapagal pero lahat ng walang awang inuubos ang kaban ng pamahalaan. Itong State opf Emergency na ito sino na naman ang pagbabalingan eh di ang mahihirap na nagdurusa na, naghihikahos pa na dapat maunang tulungan ng pamahalaan. Proclamation 1017, Panunumbalik Ng Batas Militar!!!

11:30 ng Feb 24, inihayag ng Pangulong Arroyo ang Proklamasyon 1017 na nagbibigay sa kanya ng kapangyarihang magpadakip sa sinuman nang walang mandamyento ng hukuman, pagbabawal ng lahat ng asemblea ng mga mamamayan kasama na rito ang mga miting at rally at sistemetikong supresyon ng mga karapatan ng mga mamamayan na lumahok sa mga kolektibong pagkilos na laban sa kanyang rehimen.
Agad na ipinatupad ng pangulo ang nasasaad sa Proklamasyon sa pagbomba ng tubig ng mga bumbero,pag-teargas, pagpapadakip ng mga mamamayan, mga pari at relihiyoso na sumama sa isang multisektoral na rally sa EDSA habang sila ay magkahawak-kamay na lumalakad sa kalsada.Nauna nang dinakip sina Prof.Randy David ng U.P at isinunod ang mga progresibong kongresista tulad ni Rep.Crispin Beltran maging ang dating Hen. na si Montano.
Ang MIGRANTE PARTY LIST Italy Chapter ay mariing nagtatakwil sa pasistang pagkilos ng pekeng rehimen ni Gloria Macapagal Arroyo na nagnanais na ibalik sa madilim na nakaraan ang bansang Pilipinas.
Bago pa man magdiklara si Arroyo ng State of Emergency ay patuloy nang naa-agnas at nabubulok ang kanyang rehimen dahil na rin sa kaliwat kanang krisis sa pulitika at ekonomiya na dilit walang iba ang mga mamamayan ang tunay na tinatamaan,patuloy ang pagtaas ng bilihin subalit nakapako parin ang sahod ng mga manggagawa.
Hindi rin matanggap ni Arroyo ang katotohanang hindi sya kinikilalang pangulo ng mga mamamayan dahil na rin sa nabukong pandaraya nya sa nakaraang eleksyong 2004 at sa mga sunod-sunod na mga trahedya na pinagbuwisan ng maraming buhay tulad ng nangyari sa ULTRA TRAGEDY na maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw na KAHIRAPAN ang dahilan ng pagdagsa ng mga tao sa Ultra na naging sanhi ng STAMPEDE,gayun din ang nangyari sa Guinsaugon sa Southern Leyte na kung saan nagkaroon ng Landslide at tinatayang nasa 2000 ang tinatayang biktima at ang pangunahing dahilan ng landslide ay ang pagiging KALBO ng kagubatan sa loob ng dalawang dekada.

11:30 ng Feb 24, inihayag ng Pangulong Arroyo ang Proklamasyon 1017 na nagbibigay sa kanya ng kapangyarihang magpadakip sa sinuman nang walang mandamyento ng hukuman, pagbabawal ng lahat ng asemblea ng mga mamamayan kasama na rito ang mga miting at rally at sistemetikong supresyon ng mga karapatan ng mga mamamayan na lumahok sa mga kolektibong pagkilos na laban sa kanyang rehimen.
Agad na ipinatupad ng pangulo ang nasasaad sa Proklamasyon sa pagbomba ng tubig ng mga bumbero,pag-teargas, pagpapadakip ng mga mamamayan, mga pari at relihiyoso na sumama sa isang multisektoral na rally sa EDSA habang sila ay magkahawak-kamay na lumalakad sa kalsada.Nauna nang dinakip sina Prof.Randy David ng U.P at isinunod ang mga progresibong kongresista tulad ni Rep.Crispin Beltran maging ang dating Hen. na si Montano.
Ang MIGRANTE PARTY LIST Italy Chapter ay mariing nagtatakwil sa pasistang pagkilos ng pekeng rehimen ni Gloria Macapagal Arroyo na nagnanais na ibalik sa madilim na nakaraan ang bansang Pilipinas.
Bago pa man magdiklara si Arroyo ng State of Emergency ay patuloy nang naa-agnas at nabubulok ang kanyang rehimen dahil na rin sa kaliwat kanang krisis sa pulitika at ekonomiya na dilit walang iba ang mga mamamayan ang tunay na tinatamaan,patuloy ang pagtaas ng bilihin subalit nakapako parin ang sahod ng mga manggagawa.
Hindi rin matanggap ni Arroyo ang katotohanang hindi sya kinikilalang pangulo ng mga mamamayan dahil na rin sa nabukong pandaraya nya sa nakaraang eleksyong 2004 at sa mga sunod-sunod na mga trahedya na pinagbuwisan ng maraming buhay tulad ng nangyari sa ULTRA TRAGEDY na maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw na KAHIRAPAN ang dahilan ng pagdagsa ng mga tao sa Ultra na naging sanhi ng STAMPEDE,gayun din ang nangyari sa Guinsaugon sa Southern Leyte na kung saan nagkaroon ng Landslide at tinatayang nasa 2000 ang tinatayang biktima at ang pangunahing dahilan ng landslide ay ang pagiging KALBO ng kagubatan sa loob ng dalawang dekada.
